The antibacterial agent triclosan reacts with chlorinated water to produce chloroform, a known carcinogen. As early as 1978, the FDA even published a draft stating that triclosan was not generally recognized as safe and effective.

Some risks of triclosan may include:

* Alteration of levels of thyroid hormones &reproductive hormones

* Increased risk of infertility
* Muscle function impairment
* Contribution to heart disease and heart failure
